from the shadows a nod under a baseball hat of a face much slimmer than it once was; older, though not exactly a positive change or a negative one

and from me he gets a panicked smile maybe he saw it in the way i turned away quickly maybe he saw the look i shot myself and the way i forced myself to forget it the second i turned away

but i glanced back to that corner almost instinctively and when i sang, a little white ball of light shot up from a lighter in that corner and almost threw me and in my head i was thinking

why are you here? you should know better! wasn't the application process awkward enough!? we were never actually friends, don't you get it, it's not personal but that WASN'T ME

and maybe its all that or maybe he just had to go ...
